Weyburn Project - Definition, glossary, details

Weyburn project is one of the largest CCS demonstration project in the world operating in Saskatchewan province of Canada. The Weyburn project was launched in 2000 and this $85 million project studies CO2 injection and storage underground in depleted oil fields. This project was initiated with twin objectives of Providing a new lease of life to the depleted oil fieldsFinding ways to trap and store carbon dioxide underground without letting into atmosphere. This project has so far trapped and stored 17 million tonnes of carbon dioxide over a decade since its inception.
