Radiative Forcing - Definition, glossary, details

It is the difference between incoming solar radiation and outgoing infra-red and short wave radiation. Without Radiative forcing, the solar radiation absorbed by the earth will be approximately same as the infra-red radiation emitted from the earth. The addition of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere absorbs the infra-red radiation, re-radiating it and creating a warming influence.
