Pyrolysis - Definition, glossary, details

Pyrolysis is the thermal decomposition of biomass in the absence of oxygen to produce liquid product (pyrolysis oil) directly. Pyrolysis oil consists of about 70% oxygenated organics and 30% water by weight.  It differs from other processes like combustion, hydrolysis in that it does not involve reactions with oxygen. It is a well established method to extracting energy from all forms of waste.
