Ocean Fertilization - Definition, glossary, details

Ocean Fertilization refers to adding of nutrients to the surface water of the oceans which would trigger the growth of marine plants. These plants take in carbon dioxide to grow, thereby removing large amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This method is considered to be one of the latest technologies in carbon dioxide sequestration.  Ocean fertilization is a geoengineering technique aims at enhancing the rate of ocean intake of atmospheric CO2. Researchers are working out the merits of ocean fertilization compared to other carbon dioxide storage methods.
