Monoethanolamine(MEA) - Definition, glossary, details

MEA is an amine based solvent used in derived from ethylene oxide and ammonia. It is the chemical commonly used in post combustion carbon capture process. Carbon dioxide emissions from power plants can be captured via an absorption/adsorption process using a solvent. The absorption system containing the solvent can be placed at the tail end of the coal fired power plants. Amine solvents chemically react with CO2 under certain conditions and the treated gas exits from the top of the absorber while the amine (mixed with CO2) exits from the bottom.
