Low carbon fuel standard puts a limit on the use of unconventional transportation fuels such as oil sands, as compared to conventional petroleum fuels. The Canadian government is considering imposing an LCFS on Canadian fuels. Under LCFS, the fuels used for transportation has to be moved away from traditional petroleum to fuels that emit less amount of carbon.
