Global Warming

Global warming is the increase in average temperature of earth’s surface and this trend has been noticed since the middle of 20th century. This time around the increase is on the account of raise in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere due to anthropocentric activities like burning fossil fuels and destruction of forests which act as carbon sink. It has been observed that the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased since the beginning of industrial revolution in the mid of 18th century. The IPCC report has indicated that the temperature of earth’s surface has increased by 0.7 oC during the 20th century.

Some of the consequences of global warming are increase in sea level due to melting of glaciers, increase in frequency and intensity of weather phenomenon like cyclones, changes in agricultural yields.
