The process of transforming coal into fuel through reaction of coal, water and heat is termed as coal gasification. This process produces coal gas which is also a type of syn-gas consisting of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. This coal gas can be converted into transportation fuels such as gasoline and diesel through additional treatment via fischer-tropsch process.
